Your consultation will include talking about your problems which will allow Dr Etherington to take a detailed medical history before carrying out an examination. Throughout the examination our trained practice nurse will be present. The examination may include a pelvic ultrasound scan. If your problems include an abnormal cervical screening test you may have a colposcopy examination.

Many gynaecological conditions can be managed or treated by medical or non-surgical methods. Dr Etherington will discuss these with you as well as any surgical options so that you can decide on the best way forward for you.

Sometimes during the course of your investigations and treatment a cancer may be diagnosed. If this occurs, we liaise with our Gynaecological Oncology colleagues in Brisbane for further management. Dr Etherington works in partnership with Professor Andreas Obermair and will arrange for you to have a prompt consultation. If surgery is needed to treat the cancer it will be performed by Professor Obermair in Brisbane, but your follow up will be shared between Professor Obermair and Dr Etherington so that most visits can be local here in Rockhampton.
